Dr. Subhra Sekhar Maity

Postdoctoral Researcher

He is a hydroclimatology and water resources researcher working on climate change, hydroclimatic extremes, and their implications for water infrastructure and society. His research primarily focuses on understanding and modelling climate change-driven shifts in hydroclimatic regimes, particularly changes in precipitation extremes, droughts, flash droughts, aridity, and compound climate extremes. He has worked extensively on nonstationary precipitation intensity–duration–frequency relationships, aridity transitions, and the development of improved approaches for flash-drought characterization. His research also examines the characteristics of compound climate extremes and their societal consequences, including changes in population exposure under future warming. His current research focuses on drought-to-flood abrupt transitions, the mechanisms governing these transitions, and their impacts on ecosystems. His broader research interests encompass coupled hydroclimatic and ecological responses to climate change, particularly hydroclimatic regime shifts, land–atmosphere interactions, and climate-informed hydrological risk assessment.
